We held a mini photo shoot during Jamie's visit to Columbus over Memorial Day Weekend! There may or may not have been more giggling than modeling happening while the actual photos were being taken, but that's okay because it was a total blast!
If you have read our about us section, you will know that I spent a few of years out west. That time made me a true fan of western style, especially classic pearl snap shirts. This classic look is perfect if you want to "dress up". I've seen men wear them with their best pair of jeans and boots to weddings! (I will post more about western weddings soon because they rock!)
As much as I have an appreciation for and dig wearing my western wear while I'm visiting my once home for two years, I may get funny looks decked out in my boots, Wranglers, pearl snaps, and cowboy hat in downtown Columbus. I decided to take a new spin on my western shirt and pair it with purple jeans and my trusty thrifted boots!
Have you ever had lived or visited a place that influenced your style?
What Jamie Wore:
Last week in Virginia we had a brief moment of spring just before another snow storm decided to make its way through the area. With a high temp of 70, it was almost too good to be true! Like many people that day, I made the most out of it by spending a good portion of it outside. Not having to wear a sweater or a pair of socks was the highlight of my week. Seriously.
So I have a dress that has sentimental value. I bought it years ago as a "going out" dress and wore it to so many fun parties in so many different cities around the world. It is now a lot older and has seen some better days. Don't get me wrong, if the right occasion calls, I pull it out of the closet for another go-round. But that is happening less and less. Especially now since I am not in college any more and my "going out" nights consist more and more of a of splitting a few appetizers with friends, having a few glasses of wine or a few beers, then calling it a night.
But instead of putting my dress away for good I decided to make it more work appropriate and turn it into a shirt!
Here is my dress before-
(My college days and this dress. Left/Lady Gaga party; right/trying to be cool)
Here is the dress transformed into my work outfit I wore today!
The key is in high waisted skirts that create an A-line. Not only do they create a flattering shape on pretty much anyone, but also they create the illusion that your dress is really a shirt. I have a few high waisted skirts that I wear different with dresses.
I've done this for years and often get complements on my outfit. Sometimes, the dress and skirt pair so well together people ask where I got my dress! They are surprised to hear that it is not a dress, rather two separate pieces.
Here is another example of a dress as a shirt.
What do you think? Do you ever wear a dress as a shirt or another piece of clothing in a new and new way? Let's inspire eachother!
I can smell it in the air! Spring is on its way and I cannot wait for it much longer. With the first nice day in months, my husband and I dropped our stuff off as soon as we got home from work and went on a long walk around our neighborhood.
I have started to pull out my brighter, more spring like clothes and this season is going to be all about the jewel tones for me.
What Jamie Wore:
One thing I love about the location of where my boyfriend and I live are the many trails that surround our apartment complex. Although the walk is beautiful during all four seasons, it just never quite seems as fun or appealing in the winter months; and especially this year! So when the weather recently decided to send some much needed sunshine our way, I took the opportunity to explore more of the bare forests nearby. This sweater-blouse-boot-leggings combo that I wore had just the right amount of light layers to help keep me both cool and warm throughout the entire afternoon.
"Oh look! Deer!" Those were the exact words I muttered when my boyfriend took this picture of me since there literally were about 10 of those woodland creatures wandering through the woods, only 20 feet away from us!
